Forest Hills

Project Summary

In the mountains of Yancey County, seniors on a fixed income often face a hard choice: stay in the community they’ve always known, or move somewhere with more affordable options. Mosaic partnered with the Northwestern Regional Housing Authority to close that gap, building Forest Hills, 40 units for seniors and residents with disabilities in Burnsville. The layout fits the community and the terrain.  Designed as ten smaller buildings tucked into the hillside rather than a single large structure, Forest Hills complements the site’s topography and the surrounding neighborhood character rather than fighting it. For residents who’ve spent a lifetime in these mountains, Forest Hills means never having to leave them to find a place they can afford.
