Bingham Park
3015 J.H. Wheeler Street, Charlotte, NC 28213
Project Summary
In 1966, J.H. Wheeler founded the Low Income Housing Development Corporation, the organization that would eventually become Mosaic Development Group. Decades later, Bingham Park was built on the street that carries his name. The timing mattered too: as NoDa and University City grew and rents around them climbed, longtime residents of the area faced real risk of being priced out of the neighborhood they’d called home for years. Bingham Park, a 60-unit community built through federal housing tax credits in partnership with CAHEC and the City of Charlotte, gave those residents a way to stay. Affordable housing isn’t just about a lower rent number. It’s about letting people stay where they belong.
