Renaissance Commons
301 Renaissance Circle, Elizabeth City, NC 27909
Project Summary
In a small river town like Elizabeth City, a well-run affordable senior community isn’t easy to replace once it starts to slip. There’s no deep bench of options waiting to fill the gap. Renaissance Commons had served the area’s 55+ residents for years when Mosaic partnered with River City CDC, a local nonprofit focused on strengthening the Elizabeth City community, to acquire and rehabilitate the 48-unit property rather than risk losing it. The Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program funded the work, bringing the community up to modern standards while keeping rents secure and below market rate. Thanks to Mosaic’s close coordination with residents, property management, relocation consultant and general contractor, Renaissance Commons’ thirteen buildings were fully renovated in under 6 months – a critical factor when dealing with an aging population.
